Brescia University College is taking a lead in increasing access to education for students by introducing 25 bursaries valued at $2,000 each for female Grade 12 students in southwestern Ontario.
Brescia’s Bright Futures (BBF) is aimed at lessening the financial strain of post-secondary education, beginning in September 2009. The program partners Brescia with high schools in London and surrounding areas.
Eligible students must demonstrate financial need and be registered at Brescia. The $50,000 in BFF bursaries supplements existing financial aid available at Brescia.
“We are responding to pressing needs of southwestern Ontario students affected by the current economy,” says Brescia Principal Colleen Hanycz. “These new bursaries will provide much needed support during these challenging times.”
In addition, Brescia is developing a unique public speaking contest this April in partnership with high schools in southwestern Ontario. “Take the Lead” is a contest open to young women in grades eleven and twelve with the first-prize winner will receive the first year’s full tuition at Brescia.
