The Canadian Association of University Teachers has honoured Western professor Marjorie Ratcliffe (Modern Languages and Literatures) with a Dedicated Service Award in recognition of her exceptional service to the university’s faculty association.
Ratcliffe, currently the Arts and Humanities representative on the UWOFA board, has been involved with the association since she came to Western in 1990. She spearheaded the unionization of the faculty association back in 1998 and followed up with the Labour Relations Board on contentious issues regarding membership in the bargaining unit, particularly the membership of part-time faculty.
“This is a recognition that means a great deal to me,” says Ratcliffe. “UWOFA, for me, represents all that a university should represent, respect and collegiality, which is so very often lacking in other parts of the institution.”
