Have you ever had questions about how to market software? The C4 Technology Transfer Consortium – of which Western is a founding member, along with McMaster, Waterloo and Guelph – has organized a half-day session that brings together researchers and industry representatives to share different software development and commercialization approaches.
The session will be held at the Accelerator Centre at the University of Waterloo between 8 a.m. and noon on April 2. Those interested in attending should register beforehand by visiting the C4 website.
The event will explore different models for commercializing software, with a focus on open source, and will include a keynote address by Greg DeKoenigsberg, Senior Community Development Manager of Red Hat software and a leader of the Fedora project. Fedora is a Linux-based operating system that showcases the latest in free and open source software.
Three Ontario software companies that have emerged from university research will also be in attendance, speaking about their respective software business models.
C4 fosters innovation in southwest Ontario by promoting technology transfer and commericialization. Comprised of 10 universities and research institutions, C4 members coordinate their resources, cooperate with industrial bodies, collaborate in multi-disciplinary research to solve real-world problems and commericialize the results of their research.
London’s WORLDiscoveries™ business office, which is a partnership between Western, Robarts Research Institute and Lawson Health Research Institute, participates in the development of C4 and helps bridge London’s extensive research network with global industry.
