Top academics and professionals from the world of nutrition and exercise will be at The University of Western Ontario Saturday, March 21, for the third Annual Exercise Nutrition Symposium, hosted by Mustangs women’s softball program.
The day-long symposium runs from 9 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. in room 2050, in the Social Science Centre.
Peter Lemon, director of Western’s Exercise Nutrition and Research Laboratory, is organizing and speaking at the event.
“This symposium is not just for students, but also for adults and seniors from the London area,” notes Lemon. “The idea is to have experts share their knowledge on an important health issue, and audience members will have ample opportunity to have their specific questions answered.”
“More than a third of Canadians are overweight or obese and this a major cause of several common health concerns including heart disease, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and more,” explains Lemon. “Talks will include both theoretical and practical advice on how and what to eat as well as what types of exercise are best; including novel approaches such as whole body vibration exercise and sprint interval training, as well as more traditional exercise strategies.”
Lemon, along with nine leading experts, will present on the role of diet and exercise in body transformation and health. The series will begin with a presentation focusing on cutting edge nutritional strategies, by John Berardi, chief scientific officer at Precision Nutrition. Other sessions include “How to Lose 100 lbs” with professional bodybuilder, and owner of Carling Fitness, Roberta MacNeil, as well as “So You Want to Be a Triathlete,” presented by John Salt, president of MultiSport Canada.
Tickets are available online at www.thenutritionacademy.com. Ticket prices are $49 for adults ($59 at the door), and $20 for students and seniors 60+ ($25 at the door). All proceeds support the Western Mustangs women’s softball program.
