The First Annual Undergraduate Business Games were held at Western during the weekend of March 7, 1992. Students from universities in Ontario and Quebec participated in various indoor and outdoor activities, with Western placing first overall. The biggest success, however, was said to be the good relations that developed between all participants.
· In a letter to the editor, a graduate student of journalism expressed her rationale for ignoring donation requests from Western canvassers. She clarified her position as one of being “poor, not unpatriotic”. She explained that after she had a car and paid off student loans, she would consider donations.
· Following a Western student’s diagnosis of meningitis, the University’s Student Health Services and University Hospital took immediate action to prevent spread of the bacterial infection. Emergency clinics were established to screen all students who had contact with the individual including sixth-floor residents of Saugeen-Maitland Hall.
· As part of a tour of southwestern Ontario and the United States, students from the University of Fukuoka in Japan were to compete against the Western wrestling team during the week of March 15 to 20. The Japanese team was to be lead by Coach Takamichi Tanaka, a former wrestling world champion.
· Dr. Victor Hebert, a nutrition expert from New York City, was to be at Western to discuss the distinction between nutrition science and mere scams. His goal was to dispel myths which lead to billions of dollars wasted on pills that were falsely promoted as legitimate cures. He also spoke to students regarding the health of all foods in moderation.
