In response to the racially charged research of Professor Philippe Rushton,
The African Association of London urged the university to develop a race relations policy to show its intolerance of racism. The group believed it was irresponsible to allow Rushton to persist under the guise of academic freedom.
· After a two-week suspension of Western’s liquor license, Tom Siess, University Liquor License coordinator, was not optimistic about the success of the appeal process. The suspension was established in response to patrons being served after hours at The Spoke.
· The Annual University Lifeguard Competition was to be held at Western on March 3, 1989. Teams from nine universities were to compete in events including spinal injury management and emergency pool situations.
· An Advisory Committee on Campus Child-Care was created to investigate the establishment of an on-campus child-care centre. Carol Down, Chairperson of the Committee, was interested in giving priority to the children of students and working with existing child-care facilities at Western.
· Dancers from The National Ballet of Canada were to perform at Alumni Hall on March 22. The program was to include the company’s best works such as Sleeping Beauty and Death of a Lady’s Man. Tickets were $10 for students, seniors, and alumni and $12 for all others.
