John MacDonald, new Director of Robarts Research Institute, will be formally introduced to key politicians and businesspeople in Toronto at a luncheon held at the MaRS Discovery District on March 17.
The gathering is intended to expand awareness of the leadership role Robarts and, more broadly, The University of Western Ontario, plays in furthering Canada’s innovation agenda through the production of leading research.

The event will mark the official opening of the new WORLDiscoveries office at MaRS.
WORLDiscoveries is a joint business development consortium formed between Western, Robarts and Lawson Health Research Institute to bridge local inventions and global industry.
“Given that London’s technology transfer successes are among the best in Canada – even often surpassing the University of Toronto’s – it’s particularly significant we’re holding this event at MaRS,” says Ted Hewitt, Western’s Vice-President (Research & International Relations).
“We are proud to have John MacDonald at Robarts – his leadership and research strengths are important to the expansion of London’s culture of innovation and to global awareness of the leading research conducted here.”
The MaRS Discovery District is a non-profit innovation centre that connects science, technology and entrepreneurs with business skills, networks and capital to stimulate innovation and accelerate the growth of successful Canadian enterprise.
