The Promised Land Project will host a public symposium March 13-15 at St. Clair College (Thames Campus) in Chatham. Huron University College has partnered with four other Canadian universities on the five-year project, which explores the history of 19th century black abolitionist communities in Canada, and contemporary questions of social justice and cultural identity.
The project is a SSHRC-funded Community University Research Alliance. The symposium will bring together local community partners and research collaborators from the UK, Cameroon, the US, and Canada.
During Huron’s Diversity Week (March 9-13), one of the Promised Land project research assistants presented a display at Huron on local black history and anti-slavery work.
