The University of Western Ontario has announced the appointment of Kevin Wamsley as Acting Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences for the period July 1, 2009 – June 30, 2010. Wamsley will serve during the study leave of Jim Weese, who was recently reappointed for a six-year term extending to June 30, 2015.
“We are delighted that Kevin Wamsley has agreed to serve as Acting Dean of Health Sciences during Jim Weese’s study leave” says Provost and Vice-President (Academic) Fred Longstaffe. “Kevin’s record in both teaching and scholarship is impressive, and he is highly respected within the Faculty and across the University.”

Wamsley is a graduate of Western (Honors BA and MA) and holds a PhD from the University of Alberta, all in Physical Education. Prior to coming to Western in 1997, he taught at the University of Alberta and the University of Calgary, where he also served as Associate Dean (Graduate) within the Faculty of Kinesiology.
Wamsley’s areas of academic specialization are Canadian Sport History and the Olympic Games. He has served as Senior Editor of OLYMPIKA: The International Journal of Olympic Studies and as the Director of Western’s International Centre for Olympic Studies. Since 2005, he has been Professor and Associate Dean (Programs) in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Wamsley held a Sir Izaak Walton Killam Doctoral Scholarship during his graduate study at the University of Alberta and is known for his strong research record. He has also received teaching awards at the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, and at both the Faculty and USC Teaching Honor Roll level at Western.
