Dr. Iain Mackie, General Internist at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, held a forum to address common misconceptions about the AIDS virus.
He explained how the media’s focus on the possibility of contracting AIDS, rather than understanding its great improbability, is misleading. Mackie called for the Ontario Medical Association to exercise more leadership in providing accurate information to the community.
· A banner displayed across of Middlesex Tower displayed the message, “Exams Cancelled, Go Home”. Western Engineering students were strongly suspected for the prank due to the time of year and the ingenuity of the task.
· Western’s longest serving employee, Bill Byles, died on March 25, 1988 at the age of 87. Byles worked for the Faculty of Medicine for more than 55 years. He knew many of the university’s doctors, including Dr. Frederick Banting, co-founder of insulin.
· An open house was held at Elborn College to celebrate the new SLIS Computer and Multi-Media Facilities. The $60,000-project allowed for the expansion of computer resources to include more audio and visual resources.
