The following items were passed by Senate at a recent meeting.
Name change
Senate approved the renaming of the Master of Nursing/Nurse Practitioner program to Master of Nursing. The program, effective May 1, will have general focus on advance practice. As well, the Faculty of Health Sciences received Senate approval to reinstate the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate Program, to be offered as an undergraduate certificate effective May 1.
Scholarships, awards
Senate approved new scholarships and awards for recommendation to the Board of Governors, including:
· Society of Graduate Students’ OTSS Bursaries – Awarded three times annually to full-time students who are members of the Society of Graduate Students (SOGS) and have demonstrated financial need. The endowment received matching funds from the Ontario government’s Ontario Trust for Student Support Program and recipients must meet Ontario residency requirements. Each bursary is valued at $1,000.
· Society of Graduate Students’ Bursaries – Awarded three times annually to full-time students who are members of SOGS and have demonstrated financial need. These bursaries are made possible by graduate student levy contributions and are open to eligible graduate students, regardless of residency. Each bursary is valued at $1,000 for Ontario residents and $500 for out-of-province residents.
· Dr. Bryan Smith Award in Graduate Orthodontics – Awarded to the full-time graduate student in his or her final year of the Master of Clinical Dentistry degree, Divison of Graduate Orthoddontics, who is considered the best all-round contributor to the Orthodontics program through extracurricular activities, clinical work and ability to relate to patients and peers. The scholarship, valued at $1,500, honours the life of Smith, who taught in Graduate Orthodontics.
