Senate approves new endowed chair

The Cecil and Linda Rorabeck Chair in Molecular Neuroscience and
Vascular Biology, made possible through a donation of $1 million
from Cecil and Linda Rorabeck as well as a $500,000 bequest from
Myra Millson, was approved by Senate Friday, Dec. 10.

The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry will be able to
provide more hands-on training for medical students at simulation
centres, through mock patient visits and in community health
centres, thanks to a $20-million investment from the provincial
government.

A blanket of about 100 cm of snow dropped onto the city earlier
this week, forcing the closure of The University of Western Ontario
for two and a half days. As the city digs out of its first major
snowfall of the year, Western students, staff and faculty proved
that helping others in times of need is not just an attitude
reserved for the holidays.

The Ontario Health Study is inviting all Ontario residents aged 18
and older to join a research initiative that will investigate the
risk factors for the most common diseases. Western has endorsed the
study and are proud to support its objectives.

PMA agreement ratified

Earlier today, The University of Western Ontario’s Board of
Governors ratified a new four-year agreement with the University’s
Professional and Managerial Association (PMA). The PMA represents
about 1,000 full-time employees engaged in managerial and
professional roles at Western. Their last contract expired Oct. 31.

It’s crunch time on campus as University of Western Ontario
students hit the books to prepare for mid-year exams, Dec. 10-21.
Here is a list of available study space (including D.B. Weldon’s
24-hour exam hours), places to eat and travel accommodations to
help get you through to the holidays.

UPDATE – 12:35 p.m. – Western’s Physical Plant and
Campus Police have confirmed that a buildup of snow around heating
vents was the cause of a carbon monoxide buildup in Elgin Hall this
morning that set off a carbon monoxide detector. Police and Fire
Safety evacuated the residence as a precaution.
