Paivi Berg, Department of Social Psychology, University of Helsinki, Finland, will deliver two lectures this week at events sponsored by The University of Western Ontario’s Faculty of Education Research Office.
The first lecture, Gender and Hierarchies in Physical Education, is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5 in Faculty of Education, Althouse College, room 1139. Berg will discuss gender as a dimension of group divisions and differences in physical education lessons at school in Finland.
The second lecture, Researching Physical Education Ethnographically, is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7 in Faculty of Education, Althouse College, room 1139. Berg summarizes the results of her study and focuses on ethnography as a method.
Both presentations are based on her dissertation, Group divisions and hierarchies: ethnographic study of physical education in secondary school (2010).
Berg, who has published in the journals Gender and Education and Ethnography and Education, focuses her research on gender positioning and identity in physical education.
