The Western community continues to mourn the death of Dr. Dana Winterburn, associate professor in Family Medicine at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, who was killed Tuesday night in a car accident in London.
A memorial service has been schedule for 3 p.m. Sunday, April 15 at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road N., London. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dana S. Winterburn Memorial Scholarship Fund or the Breast Cancer Society.
Winterburn graduated with her MD from the University of Alberta in 1994, and received her Certification in Family Medicine in 1996, after completing her residency at Western. She was granted fellowship in the College of Family Physicians of Canada in 2007. Prior to going into medicine, Danna completed a BSc in Honours Biology and a Masters of Public Administration.
Dana joined the Department of Family Medicine at Western in 2004 as assistant professor at the Byron Family Medical Centre. She was promoted to associate professor of Family Medicine in 2011.
Prior to joining the Department, Dana performed valuable roles as a family physician at the Middlesex London Health Unit, at the North Lambton Community Health Centre serving the Kettle Point First Nation, at the London Psychiatric Hospital, and at Student Health Services at Western.
