Men’s water polo player Daniel Abraham and women’s hockey player Natasha Panahi have been named the Western Mustangs Goodlife Fitness Athletes of the Week for Nov. 19-25.
Abraham, a third-year BMOS student, helped the Mustangs to a bronze medal at this past weekend’s OUA Men’s Water Polo Championship. A native of the Port of Spain, Abraham earned a spot on the OUA All-Star Team after scoring 20 goals during the tournament, including four goals in the team’s 15-12 win over Ottawa in the bronze medal game.
Western coach Charlie Smith was happy with Abraham’s performance on the weekend, saying “Daniel has put a lot of effort into the season and I’m glad he is being recognized for his play.”
Panahi, a first-year Social Sciences student, was a key factor in Western’s 3-2 shootout victory against Windsor on Sunday. The Coquitlam, BC, native scored both the first and last goals for Western on Sunday, tying the game midway through the first period before scoring the shootout winner to give the Mustangs their ninth win of the season.
“Natasha Panahi is a coach’s dream,” said head coach Chris Higgins. “She comes to play every day, she wants to learn and get better. Her shootout goal on Sunday was a highlight reel special.”
