Swimmers Emma Sproule and Robert Wise have been named the Western Mustangs Goodlife Fitness Athletes of the Week for Feb. 11-17.
Sproule, a first-year Social Sciences student, helped the Mustangs women’s swimming team win a fifth straight OUA Swimming Championship this past weekend in Toronto. The Calgary native had an excellent weekend, winning six medals, including three gold, and helped set new OUA records in 400m Freestyle Relay and 800m Freestyle Relay. Along with the Mustangs OUA title and her six medals, Sproule was also named the OUA Rookie of the Year.
“It was a great first OUA Championship for Emma,” said head coach Paul Midgley. “She is definitely someone we can build the team around as we focus on moving up at the CIS level.”
Wise, a third-year Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies (BMOS) student, helped the Mustangs men’s swimming team place third at the OUA Swimming Championship in Toronto. He won five OUA Championship medals, including a gold in the 1500m Free with an impressive 15:26.78, and four bronze medals in the 200m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 400 Freestyle Relay and 800 Freestyle Relay.
“It was a solid meet for Rob even though he wasn’t at 100 per cent this weekend. He is now looking toward the CIS Championships in Calgary next weekend,” Midgley said.
