The FIRST LEGO League is an international program that introduces students in Grade 4-8 to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface.
The Western Engineering FIRST Robotics Mentorship Club aims to provide an open atmosphere where Western students mentor and support students from London-area schools as they explore robotics.
“When I was in second-year and third-year engineering, we had to do that kind of stuff from breadboards, wiring it all up and writing all the code. Here, it’s a visual language, it’s relatively easy to use and you can just program a robot, stitch it all together and do something like this. We used to spend a whole year at the university level to do something like this – they’re doing it in grade five,” said Larry Breakwell, Robo Dolphins’ coach and trained engineer.
