Soccer players Christian Douglas and Lauren Winquist have been named the Western Mustangs Athletes of the Week for the period ending Oct. 5.
Douglas, a third-year Kinesiology student from Oakville, scored three goals in two games last week, helping the Mustangs defeat the Windsor Lancers and Brock Badgers to move into third place in the OUA West Division. Douglas scored the game winner late in Wednesday’s win over Windsor before recording two goals in the win over Brock on Sunday. His 11 goals on the season put him into a tie for second place among all OUA players. This is the second consecutive week that Douglas has been named Western’s Male Athlete of the Week, also earning the award for a two-goal game against Waterloo on Sept. 28.
Winquist, a third-year Medical Science student from London, recorded a hat trick in Wednesday’s 4-0 win over Windsor to help the Mustangs go undefeated for the week, topping the Lancers and playing to a 0-0 draw with Brock on Sunday. The two-time OUA all-star’s four goals on the season has helped the Mustangs to a CIS-best 57 goals scored, while only allowing three against, for an incredible plus-54 goal differential.
