Sponsored by Hospitality Services, the first annual CHOPT Western-Student Culinary Competition invites students with a passion for food to prove who is tops in the Mustang kitchen.
Starting this week, each residence will host its own competition with three students competing against each other, under the guidance of Rez Dining unit chefs.
Competitors will each receive a ‘black box’ containing five ingredients which must be used in the creation of their dish. In addition, there will be a selection of pantry items from which all competitors can choose additional items for their recipes. The student chefs will have one hour in which to develop an entrée recipe, create the dish and, finally, present it to the panel of judges.
The competitions start at 5:30 p.m. on the following dates: Saugeen-Maitland Hall, Jan. 26; Essex Hall, Jan. 28; Sydenham Hall, Feb. 2; and Elgin Hall, Feb. 4.
Each winners receives $50 on their Residence Meal Plan; participants receive $20 on their plan.
