Western officials are continuing to investigate how a document containing student information surfaced on a third-party website earlier today.
Originating with the university’s Leadership and Academic Mentorship Program (LAMP), the document contained information on first-year students from 2014-15 who participated in LAMP, including names, Western email addresses, home and cell phone numbers. The document did not include home addresses, personal email addresses, student numbers, passwords or other identifying information.
“Western takes the safeguarding of personal information very seriously,” said Leslie Gloor-Duncan, Associate Director, Transition, Leadership and Enrichment at The Student Success Centre. “We are reaching out to every student whose information is in the document to make them aware of the situation.”
Campus Community Police Service is currently investigating how this document came to be posted online. After contacting the host site, Western officials now believe the document has been removed.
