Read. Watch. Listen. introduces you the personal side of our faculty, staff and alumni. Participants are asked to answer three simple questions about their reading, viewing and listening habits – what one book or newspaper/magazine article is grabbing your attention; what one movie or television show has caught your eye; and what album/song, podcast or radio show are you lending an ear to.
Tricia Johnson is a Visual Arts professor.
Today, she takes her turn on Read. Watch. Listen.
Read.
An article in Uppercase magazine, Issue 37, that discusses the Folly Cove Designers, a Guild of printmakers (mostly women) in the United States, mid-20th Century, who carved lino blocks and printed fabric, led by a great artist named Virginia Lee Burton. My first-year Visual Arts students use the same technique and process for their print project and it was wonderful to discover this exceptional history to the medium.
Watch.
Civilizations currently running on PBS, which discusses the influence of art in “the forging of humanity.” The video documentation of the art is excellent – total visual pleasure.
Listen.
Nothing – or, in other words, silence. I might be unusual this way but I really enjoy giving my ears some time off.
