Former multi-tour professional Chris Dickson will now coach the four-time defending OUA women’s golf team at Western.
Dickson, presently enrolled in the Master’s program in Kinesiology at Western, will be the third coach in the short history of the women’s golf program, taking over from interim head coach Karen Danylchuk who along with assistant Sue Postian guided the Mustangs the their fourth straight OUA title.
Western has won all four provincial championships in the short history of women’s golf as a varsity sport.
“Chris will take on a unique experience here at Western by blending his academic pursuit of a Masters degree in coaching and provide leadership to our four-time OUA champion women’s golf program at the same time,” says acting director of Sports and Recreation Services at Western, Chuck Mathies.
Dickson, previously attended colleges in Florida and Texas on golf scholarships.
“Being named head golf coach and being a part of the rich academic and athletic tradition at Western is a great opportunity for me, and for that I am very grateful,” says Dickson. “Without the strong support of both the academic and athletic staff at Western, I may not have been provided with this opportunity.”
Dickson has played on the Canadian Tour, Asian Tour, New England Tour, Dakotas Tour, Tight Lies Tour and even the Canadian Open, a PGA Tour event.
With four wins as a professional and the owner of two course records (Sawmill Creek Resort and Spa and Cottonwood Creek Country Club), Dickson also holds a strong instructional resume with experience teaching golf at the Heart of Texas Golf Academy and one-on-one work with university, professional and amateur players.
He’s also coached players from top ranked NCAA programs such as the University of Texas, Baylor University, Texas Christian University and the University of Houston.
“As the golf coach I look forward in providing the golf team with the support and guidance to be successful in an atmosphere of enjoyment and challenges that come with being a part of one of Canada’s top woman’s golf programs,” says Dickson.
