The Western Mustang Band, the Dance Pack and the Mustang Cheerleaders will be strutting, flipping and dancing along the red carpet Sunday at the MuchMusic Video Awards in Toronto.
Steve Allingham, President of the Western Marching Band, says the band was approached by an executive producer from Insider Films, a Vancouver-based video broadcast company, about performing during the red carpet pre-show.
Approximately 60 students will be part of a small parade introducing Marianas Trench, a Canadian pop punk band nominated for four MuchMusic Video Awards.
The marching band is considering performing Eye of the Tiger, Final Countdown or possibly The Western Song.
“Our goal is to promote the university and its spirit squads,” says Allingham. “Most of all we think it will be fun and a great experience.”
Western is believed to be the only university participating in the red carpet events. The cheerleaders have performed at the awards show twice in the past.
Watch the Mustangs debut on MuchMusic (Channel 29 on Rogers Cable in London) by tuning in between 8-9 p.m. on June 21.
