The two-time defending Yates Cup champion and defending Mitchell Bowl champion Western Mustangs football team begins full training camp this week at TD Waterhouse Stadium.
The two-a-day sessions run until Thursday, after which some of the players will be selected to travel to Ste. Foy, Quebec to participate in an intersquad practice with the defending Vanier Cup champion Laval Rouge et Or on Saturday.
On Sunday (Aug. 30), the Mustangs and Laval will play in an exhibition game – a rematch of the 2008 Vanier Cup game.
Western open the 2009 regular season on Sept. 6 in Ottawa against the Gee-Gees in a rematch of the 2008 Yates Cup final. On Sept. 12 (1 p.m.), Western hosts the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks in a rematch of the 2008 OUA semifinal.
