Some Twitter users have recently been on the receiving end of efforts to trick them into revealing private information.
Mathew Hoy, senior web designer for The University of Western Ontario, is warning Twitter users to be on the lookout for direct messages that look something like:
* “LOL – this you? https://webaddress here/webpage”
* “Are you smarter than me? Take this IQ test for me. https://webaddress here/webpage”
There’s little information in the message, playing on a user’s curiosity. The linked site may look like Twitter, and encourage users to log in.
However, these are phishing exercises designed to obtain your password or other private information.
Hoy offers more information, links to background articles and tips on dealing with these tricksters at his blog.
