Dave Edwards, long-time associate and assistant coach of the Western Mustangs women’s volleyball team, will be stepping into the head coach role for the 2010-2011 season.
Edwards has been an associate and assistant coach with Western since 2002 and is a well-respected coach in the southwestern Ontario volleyball community. He is also Western alumnus, with a degree in physical education.
He will assume the lead role immediately, as head coach Dean Lowrie takes a leave from coaching.
The team capped off an excellent 2009-10 season with an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) bronze medal, finishing with 28 points and recording a 14-5 record to land second in the OUA West.
“We have some strong talent returning this year, and some new talent that shows great promise,” says Edwards. “I think there is reason to expect a strong performance and I am looking forward to working with a great team.”
