In sharp contrast to the constant growth on campus, three buildings will be razed during the next month.
The former Services Building, located at the corner of Lambton and Huron drives, and the former Westminster College administration building, located beside Westminster Hall at Windermere Road and Richmond Street, will be demolished. A vacant home just off Richmond Street near the bridge will also be leveled.
Demolition begins today on the Westminster buildings. Fencing will be erected around the former Services Building and demolition is expected to start the third week of September.
In recent months, the buildings have been vacant. Continuing to leave them in that state has raised health and safety concerns. Renovation is not an option due to the cost of bringing the structures up to code. If possible, some stone features from the doors of the Services Building will be retained for future use.
Once the buildings have been removed, the areas will be landscaped, as there are no current plans for new construction on these sites. The Campus Master Plan will guide future uses for these locations.
