Western grad student remembered
The University of Western Ontario community is mourning the recent
death of Dr. Mahdi Al Darwish. Al Darwish, a research fellow in the
Clinical Investigator Program at Schulich School of Medicine &
Dentistry, fell ill and passed away while visiting his family for
the holidays in Saudi Arabia.

the Western News starts a new, if not wholly original, tradition.

academia and volunteer spirit that we have to offer on this campus.
Revised exam schedule posted
The revised exam schedule for Sunday, Dec. 19 is now available for
students who had exams canceled as a result of Western’s Dec. 15
weather-related closure. The schedule can be accessed <a href=
“https://www.registrar.uwo.ca/index.cfm/general-information/features/special-notifications/rescheduled-exams/”>
here</a>. An important note is that previously scheduled 9 a.m.
exam start times will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19.

For the second time this month, The University of Western Ontario
closed its doors on Wednesday, Dec. 15 due to inclement weather.
Huron appoints new principal
Stephen McClatchie, Provost and Vice-President, Academic and
Research, Mount Allison University, has been appointed the new
principal of Huron University College effective July 1, 2011.
Milde appointed as acting dean of Arts and Humanities
Associate professor Michael Milde has been appointed as acting dean
beginning Jan. 1 for a term ending June 30, 2012.
Burst pipe floods Physics and Astronomy Building
Staff continues to assess the damage in the Physics and Astronomy
Building this morning after an exposed hot water pipe burst around
9 p.m. last night flooding the third, second and first floors. The
pipe was located in a construction site in the building’s southeast
corner. Facilities Engineering and Caretaking Services as well as
the site’s contractor, Norlon-Builders, were notified as soon as
the flooding was discovered. Cleanup took part over a couple of
hours.

The month of December is often a time for reflection.

recently when a time capsule that was buried in the former Support
Services Building May 7, 1963 was opened.

Tom Jenkyn held his breath as he watched the Canadian Olympic
women’s curling team sweep across the ice in their first round
robin match-up.

imaging technology it’s The University of Western Ontario’s Aaron
Fenster.
