Thompson: USC actions a doggone shame

USC – a.k.a. Scrooge?

I was really surprised when I was told that Western’s University Students’ Council (USC) charged the London Humane Society $300 to set up their booth in the University Community Centre this week. The booth is manned by volunteers and all profit goes to help our four-legged friends.

Shame on you, USC. Clearly, charity does not begin at home.

An argument used was, if USC made an exception for one charity, they would have to make an exception for all charities. Guidelines and judgment are required so charities do not have to worry about covering the rent before they can make a profit.

When I purchase items from the Humane Society, I want my money to go to help the animals – not pay rent on a booth.
