Starting June 21, the Student Success Centre will host the Summer Academic Orientation (SAO) program. Newly admitted Western undergraduate students will be welcomed to campus through day-long programming taking place June 21-Aug. 3 in the University Community Centre (UCC).
SAO allows students to get connected with and learn more about Western, as well as meet members of its community before they begin school in September. Each summer the university welcomes more than 4,250 students and approximately 4,200 parents to London as part of the program. This makes up 90 per cent of the first-year class.
“The program is essential in setting students up for success in September,” said Leslie Gloor Duncan, Transition, Leadership and Enrichment Programs team coordinator at The Student Success Centre. “It’s checking off a lot of the ‘to-do’ things they are probably wondering about, but maybe don’t have the resources otherwise. It’s to set their mind at ease.”
Participants can meet upper-year student leaders; meet with professors for course advising; create an individual timetable and register for courses with the help of upper-year student leaders; learn about Western services and campus life; become familiar with the campus; and meet other first-year students.
