The Council of Ontario Universities (COU) has launched its career website, MyCareerInfo.ca. The site is designed to help students, graduates and entry-level workers access campus career services, build a strong portfolio, gain budgeting skills and find a job that fits with their education, skills and interests.
“Ontario universities already have many rich resources available for students and graduates,” said Max Blouw, COU chair and Wilfrid Laurier University president. “MyCareerInfo.ca is an extra resource to help students find the help they need to translate their skills into meaningful work.”
The latest statistics show that 87.5 per cent of Ontario students are finding employment within six months of graduation, and 93.1 per cent are employed within two years. Despite economic uncertainty, these are well-paying jobs. University students are earning an average of $42,403 six months after graduation, more than those with any other level of education.
A recent report by CIBC listed 25 occupations showing signs of a skills shortage over the next several years. Nearly 70 per cent of these occupations require a university degree.
MyCareerInfo.ca is updated regularly with the latest news from the job sector, including new job apps, resume and interview tips and career advice.
“Universities teach our students so much more than what the name of their degree suggests. They teach creativity, critical thinking and problem solving, intellectual resilience, and how to clearly communicate ideas,” said Bonnie M. Patterson, COU president and CEO. “This job site will help students find the resources needed to transfer their skills into a career that fits with their education, competencies and passions, and point them to the rich resources available on campus through career and student services and elsewhere.”
