A mission to the Moon… without leaving Earth
Conducting a mission to another planet or moon requires literally thousands of hours of revolutionary research and thought-provoking investigation. An important step in that preparation is to run a mission simulation to test operational, scientific, and technological concepts.
Going to the moon, while staying on Earth
To the uninformed, you would have sworn the group of almost 30 students and graduate students huddled in the close confines of Western’s science building basement labs were part of a real planetary exploration mission.
Western launches new space program
Some students are chastised for having their heads in space. A new training program led by The University of Western Ontario will ensure they are rewarded for it – for thinking about space in new ways, that is.
Western researcher solves 37-year-old space mystery
A researcher from The University of Western Ontario has helped
solve a 37-year-old space mystery using lunar images released
yesterday by NASA and maps from his own atlas of the moon.
More meteorite chunks discovered
With the national media focused on Grimsby, Ontario, a
scientifically-fuelled scavenger hunt – led by a team of
Western researchers – has now produced three golf ball-sized
fragments of meteorite from the small town nestled between Lake
Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment.
Recovered meteorite tracked from space
GRIMSBY, ONT. – When Tony Garchinski heard a loud crash just after
9 p.m. on Friday, September 25 he didn’t think much of it. That is,
until he awoke the next morning to find the windshield of his mom’s
Nissan Pathfinder with a huge crack in it. Making note of the
‘unusual’ rocks he later found on the car’s hood, Garchinski
chalked up the incident to vandalism and filed a police report.
Western astronomers locate meteor
A golf ball-sized fragment of the meteorite that lit up the skies
of southern Ontario three weeks ago has been recovered in Grimsby,
Ontario.
Breakfast with stars
Stargazers are invited to a special breakfast on Friday, Oct. 9
that will toast the morning with a special view of the NASA LCROSS
spacecraft exploration venture to the moon.
Western astronomers capture spectacular meteor footage and images
Astronomers from The University of Western Ontario have released

a full moon.
Do you have a meteorite in your backyard?
The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) and The University of Western
Ontario are looking for help from local residents in recovering a
meteorite that fell to earth in the Newmarket, Ont. area.
Bold steps toward planetary science and exploration
With the objective of making The University of Western Ontario a
major centre for planetary science and exploration, the Centre for
Planetary Science and Exploration (CPSX) and the Canadian Lunar
Research Network (CLRN) were launched today with lectures and
celebrations on campus.
Western goes boldly into space
In a bold venture uniting scientists who study space with engineers
who design space systems and robotics, The University of Western
Ontario is launching the Centre for Planetary Science and
Exploration (CPSX) and the Canadian Lunar Research Network (CLRN).
