The Western Mustangs, in conjunction with the Canadian Olympic Committee and Wrestling Canada, will host a panel discussion on the status and future of Olympic Wrestling 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27 in the Spencer Engineering Building, room 1059. The discussion will also be live streamed at the Streaming Sports Network.
Media and public are invited to attend this panel discussion examining the current – and future – wrestling landscape in light of the recent decision by the International Olympic Committee to remove wrestling from the Olympic sport program in 2020.
Moderated by David Langford, former Sun Media and Globe and Mail sports editor, the panel will include Caroline Assalian, Canadian Olympic Committee chief sport officer; Tamara Medwidsky, Wrestling Canada executive director; Dr. Bob Barney, Western professor emeritus at the International Centre for Olympic Studies; Richard McLaren, Western Law professor and international recognized sports arbitrator, Court of Arbitration for Sport at six Olympic Games; and Saeed Azarbayjani, 2008 Olympian and Western assistant coach.
The event is being presented in conjunction with the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Wrestling Championships, scheduled for March 1-2 at Western’s Alumni Hall.
