The University of Western Ontario honours its student-athletes who achieved 80 per cent or better in the 2007-08 academic year at the annual Academic Awards Luncheon today.
The luncheon, which will be held at The Great Hall on Dec. 5, will recognize the successful Mustangs.
Western moved up in the national rankings to No. 5 with 93 CIS Academic All-Canadians (student-athletes with academic averages of 80 per cent or better who compete in CIS sports), and boasts 130 OUA Achievement Award winners (student-athletes with academic averages of 80 per cent or better who compete in OUA sports).
Once again, over one-quarter of Western’s student-athletes have an average of 80 per cent or better.
In 2006-07, Western had 209 student-athletes in this position. Western has improved to 223 in 2007-08.
Only Waterloo has more academic All-Canadians (99) in the province, while Laval (146), McGill (136) and Alberta (126) are also ahead of Western nationally.
