With the objective of making The University of Western Ontario a major centre for planetary science and exploration, the Centre for Planetary Science and Exploration (CPSX) and the Canadian Lunar Research Network (CLRN) were launched today with lectures and celebrations on campus.
The events drew representatives of NASA, the Canadian Space Agency, and former Canadian Astronaut Bjarni Tryggvason, who is an adjunct engineering research professor at Western. Also on hand were representatives of the Google Lunar X Prize Team, Odyssey Moon 9 and MDA, a company that builds lunar and planetary rovers.
Peter Brown, Director of CPSX and Gordon Osinski, Deputy Director of CPSX and Principal Investigator of the CLRN welcomed the special guests and said that the two organizations are an important part of Western’s mission to create a vibrant, research intensive learning environment.
