The South Asian Medical Students’ Association is hosting the second annual South Asian Health Symposium on March 8.
SAMSA is a group of medical students at The University of Western Ontario with the aim of promoting awareness of health and cultural issues particular to the South Asian community.
The free symposium offers attendees the opportunity to hear from physicians about ways to maintain healthy lifestyles and learn about medical issues prevalent among South Asians.
The public event will be held at the Wolf Performance Hall at the London Central Public Library from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Dr. Subodh Verma, a cardiac surgeon and researcher at Toronto’s St. Michael’s Hospital, will be discussing heart health among South Asians. Dr. Faisal Rehman, a nephrologist at the London Health Sciences Centre, will speak about obesity and diabetes and a registered dietitian will discuss healthy eating habits and demonstrate food preparation of nutritious South Asian meals.
The evening will also feature a musical performance by renowned singer, Dr. Mandar Jog, and a South Asian dinner.
