A Western-produced video providing a compelling examination of discrimination and exclusion in Canada’s post-secondary education system – and the toll it takes on students, faculty and staff – is finding a home at universities across Canada.
Voices of Diversity: Creating a culture of safety, respect and belonging on campus, explores how discrimination and isolation, as well as emotional and physical intimidation, affects campus lives.
Bonnie MacLachlan, chair of the video steering committee and a senior member of the Caucus on Women’s Issues, is pleased to see the video increasing knowledge and sparking debate on campuses across Canada.
Produced in response to the 2007 April Fools’ issue of Western’s student-owned newspaper The Gazette, the video has been purchased for broader presentation by a number of universities including Toronto, Guelph, Brock, Dalhousie, Memorial and others.
“The support we have had from campus has been tremendous and we’re happy to see the video created continues to raise awareness and discussions on what is such an important issue,” says MacLachlan.
The video is on sale through The Book Store at Western, with two viewings scheduled for students, staff and faculty on Feb. 9 at 3:30 p.m. in the McKellar Room and Feb. 25 at 11:30 a.m. at Conron Hall.
