Students from the new master’s program in linguistics have organized an innovative symposium on language research – the Western Interdisciplinary Student Symposium on Language Research.
According to organizers, the event – underway today and Saturday – is the first on campus to employ live Internet (Wimba technology) technology as well as traditional in-person presentation.
The Western Interdisciplinary Student Symposium on Language Research, organized by students from the new master’s program in linguistics, runs through Saturday on campus.
Some of the 29 presenters in the student-led conference will be presenting live from Germany, Taiwan and British Colombia. Presenters and audience members are able to tune in live from anywhere in the world.
The event is sponsored by Western’s Interdisciplinary Development Initiatives and participants come from North America, Europe and Africa.
The online aspect offers an opportunity for international participants to take part without the expense of travel. Students from all levels are presenting original research on language from a wide range of disciplinary approaches.
