Kellie Leitch, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry’s chair of paediatric surgery, has been selected as one of the Olympic torchbearers for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
Organizers of the Olympic torch relay visited the city on April 6 when it was announced Leitch was the first person from London to be selected to carry the torch.
Leitch is the author of a 2008 federal government report called ‘Reaching for the Top: A Report by the Advisor on Healthy Children and Canada’s Youth’, which served as the inspiration for Sogo Active, a national program to inspire youth to get physical.
The promotional tour was held to encourage Londoners to submit nominations for torchbearers in the 2010 Olympics. The deadline is May 31. More information can be viewed at www.sogoactive.com.
