University of Western Ontario Mustangs offensive tackle Zachary Pollari and linebacker Jason Kosec were taken in Saturday’s CFL draft by Toronto and Edmonton, respectively.
The 6’7″, 267lb Pollari and 6’4″, 225lb Kosec were part of a record day that saw 38 CIS players drafted including the top seven picks.
According to the Argonauts website, Pollari (4th round pick, 26th overall) was super excited to go this high in the draft.
“I am especially looking forward to working with Offensive Line Coach Ron Heller because I got to know him at evaluation camp as well as the rest of the new coaching staff,” says Pollari. “I know some of the other guys from Western who are on the team. Every kid that grows up playing football has the ultimate goal of playing professional and now I get to live my dream.”
Kosec (6th round pick, 44th overall), who didn’t play in 2008, spent four years at Western at linebacker and on special teams. He was named defensive team captain in 2007 and represented Western at the 2008 East-West Bowl.
He graduated from Lorne Park Secondary School and was selected as one of the top linebackers in Ontario by All Canadian Gridiron. His father, Frank, played in the CFL for Calgary (1981) and Montreal (1982-85).
