The H1N1 influenza virus continues its steady spread, having triggered the World Health Organization’s pandemic alert level phase 6 – its highest level.
The alert signals the transmission rate, not the seriousness of the virus. Canadians should have a vaccine as early as October-November.
More than 35,000 cases have been confirmed in more than 75 countries. Five cases are from the Middlesex-London area and all were considered mild.
Faculty, staff and students should remain vigilant in protecting themselves.
Cover your nose and mouth area when coughing or sneezing and wash hands often and use hand sanitizer. Those who are sick are encouraged to stay at home. Keep some distance between yourself and those who are ill.
