Campus Community Police Service, along with The University of Western Ontario community, mourns the loss of former dispatcher David Meaney, who died Sunday, Aug. 9 at Victoria Hospital.
Michael Mics, manager of Campus Police, worked with Meaney for almost 22 years and describes him as a “lively and spirited” man with a “quick wit.”

“He was always one to make sure things were upbeat in our office,” says Mics, adding when he retired “we immediately missed that levity he had.
Mics recalls several instances where Meaney played a critical role in connecting police with a person in distress.
“He would go above and beyond the call of duty and always went to extreme measures to service the community,” he says.
Meaney was also instrumental in implementing uniforms for the dispatchers.
The flag will be at half-mast Friday, Aug. 14 until 9:30 a.m. for Meaney, who retired in July with 24 years of service.
Visitation service for Meaney, 67, will be held at O’Neil Funeral Home (350 William St.) on Thursday, Aug. 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. John the Divine Church (390 Baseline Rd. W., London) on Friday, Aug. 14 at 9:30 a.m.
