University can be an exhilarating, yet sometimes overwhelming experience.
Western’s new president Amit Chakma is focusing on his top priority of developing a long-term strategy to enhance Western’s standing as a globally recognized academic institution.
T
he first year at university can be a non-stop rollercoaster of friends, lectures, socializing, student activities, exams and more.
Chances are you’re not from London and this may be only your second or third visit to Western. The following Special Edition of Western News will let students know who does what, where to find these resources and how they can be beneficial during their time at Western.
Whether it is receiving extra help when it comes to studying habits or wanting to join a student club; safety on campus or wanting to work out – Western offers all of that and more.
While most students decide whether or not to stay at a particular university in their first several weeks on campus, institutions can greatly influence those decisions with academic and co-curricular programs designed specifically to meet the needs of first-year students. This is what Western aims to do.
Western is proud of its proven track record of successes for its students and graduates, but the university is not complacent and continues the development of providing quality facilities for teaching, learning and research.
In fact, the university has committed more than $230 million towards new construction through 2013.
New facilities opening include the Western Student Recreation Centre ($35 million), Students Services Building ($15 million), Engineering’s ‘Green Building’ ($13.9 million), Support Services Building ($9 million), the Advanced Facility for Avian Research ($5.3 million) and the Material Sciences Addition ($4.4 million).
These, and other facilities in the planning stages, are just a step in the direction towards creating some of the top facilities for both undergraduate and graduate students.
Students can expect to learn in a student-centred environment with staff and faculty of the highest professionalism; where the development of the student’s full potential and the realization of their aspirations are key objectives.
Welcome to Western!
