Western’s Board of Governors has ratified a two-year collective agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE Local 2692) for the period July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2011.
The union represents 275 hospitality services staff, including 69 regular full-time members and 206 eight-month sessional members. The agreement includes a basic salary adjustment of 1.5 per cent in each year of the contract.
“Negotiations took place over four days, with a tentative agreement being reached in a timely and collegial manner,” says Jane O’Brien, Associate Vice-President (Human Resources). “We’re very pleased to have an agreement in place for another two years with this important staff group who contribute greatly to the quality of life we enjoy on campus.”
President of CUPE Local 2692 Bob Graham adds: “My negotiating team is pleased with the agreement we reached with the university, and 90 per cent of our members voted in favour of this new contract.”
Western currently has collective agreements with all of its unions and employee associations, and is presently working toward a contract renewal with the university’s librarians and archivists, whose contract expired June 30.
Earlier this year, the board ratified a new agreement with the Professional-Managerial Association which included basic salary adjustments of 1.5 per cent.
