The Richard Ivey School of Business, CFA Institute and the Toronto CFA Society met Friday for an official signing ceremony celebrating Ivey’s entry into the CFA Program Partner initiative.
CFA Institute is the global association for investment professionals that award the prestigious CFA designation. The partnering programs include Ivey’s HBA (undergraduate) and MBA Program.
Toronto CFA Society is a not-for-profit organization supporting professional development and advancement of CFA charterholders. The society provides member services including educational programs, sponsored events, job postings and networking opportunities.
“The partnership is indeed an important endeavour for both Ivey and the CFA Institute,” says Ivey Dean Carol Stephenson. “Together, we can provide our future leaders, leading-edge material, information, and insight into the world of finance.”
CFA Institute awards five scholarships yearly to each of the partnering schools, for students planning to complete Level 1 of the CFA program. Five Ivey students have been awarded scholarships this year: Nicholas Chan (HBA), Josh Kochen (HBA), Stuart Wilson (MBA), Dale Zhang (HBA) and Craig Speers (HBA).
The scholarship waives CFA program enrolment fees and a portion of exam registration fees. Scholarship winners are also provided complimentary sample exams, webcasts and news briefs.
“Ivey is pleased to be joining with CFA Institute, such a highly-regarded partner, to provide this valuable opportunity to our students, particularly those who are seeking to obtain the CFA charter,” says Steve Foerster, CFA, professor of Finance at Ivey.
“Establishing the CFA Program Partnership demonstrates, to potential students and to employers, that Ivey is committed to maintaining high standards in professional education,” says Bob McLean, head of university relations at CFA Institute. “It also demonstrates recognition of the critical role of ethics in preparation for careers in financial markets.”
Ivey joins 103 other CFA partner institutions worldwide and is one of the only two partner participants in Ontario.
