Cuba’s Minister Counselor & Deputy Chief of Mission Ms. Maria de la Luz B’Hamel and Consul-General to Canada Jorge Soberon Luis will be visiting Western today as part of the university’s Cuba Day celebrations.
The event, sponsored by Vice President (Research) Ted Hewitt and the Department of Sociology, begins with a roundtable featuring Cuban researchers at Western from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., followed by a luncheon and address by Consul General Luis.
At 2:15 p.m. there will be a lecture by Nelson Valdes of the University of New Mexico, on “Contemporary developments in Cuba.” in Room 9430 of the Social Science Centre.
On Tuesday, Oct. 20, Valdes will speak on “What Fidel Castro can teach Max Weber about Charisma.” The public lecture will be held from 12:30-1 p.m. in Room 9420 of the Social Science Centre.
