Lauded for her efforts to advance women in both their education and careers, Richard Ivey School of Business Dean Carol Stephenson will receive an award today from The International Alliance for Women.
Stephenson is one of 20 Canadian women named to The International Alliance for Women (TIAW) “World of Difference 100 list”, which recognizes unsung heroes who have championed for gains on behalf of women. The awards will be presented tonight at a ceremony at Le Meridien King Edward Hotel in Toronto.
TIAW, a global umbrella organization whose members support programs that foster the economic empowerment and advancement of women, honours up to 100 recipients each year in categories such as public service/government, corporate/entrepreneurial and community. Stephenson is a recipient in the corporate/education category.
“It’s an honour to be included in this worldwide group of women,” says Stephenson. “One of my missions at Ivey is to increase the exposure of young women to the world of business. There are so many high-quality women with a lot of talent.”
Eric Morse, Associate Dean of Programs at Ivey, says Stephenson works hard to inspire the next generation of business leaders so there will be future role models for both young women and men.
“Through such efforts, and her own career successes and community work, she is inspiring talented businesswomen to contribute to the growth of their organizations, their communities and the economy,” he says. “We are pleased her contributions are being recognized.”
Stephenson has already been recognized for inspiring women. She has previously been named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women, Woman of the Year by the Canadian Women in Communications Association, and a Woman of Distinction by the YWCA.
