The University of Western Ontario’s Board of Governors has ratified a two-year collective agreement with librarians and archivists (UWOFA-LA) for the period July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2011.
The 55 members of the bargaining unit are represented by the University of Western Ontario Faculty Association (UWOFA).
The agreement includes a base salary adjustment of 1.5 per cent in each year of the contract, as well as money for market adjustments. Earlier this month, UWOFA-LA members voted 90 per cent in favour of ratifying the agreement.
Fred Longstaffe, Western’s Provost & Vice-President (Academic) says, “This is wonderful news.
“I congratulate both negotiating teams on the successful achievement of this agreement, and thank them for their hard work on behalf of all of us. Let me also extend my appreciation to the librarians and archivists more broadly – for their significant and sustained contributions to Western.”
Speaking for librarians and archivists was Michael Carroll, Acting UWOFA President:
“Both negotiating teams worked extremely hard and deserve the congratulations of all members of the university community. The resulting contract represents a compromise but one that is fair and reasonable in these circumstances. Well done.”
Western has collective agreements with all of its union and employee groups.
Earlier this year, the board ratified agreements with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE Local 2692), representing 275 hospitality services staff, and with the Professional-Managerial Association (PMA), representing more than 1,000 members. Both agreements included a base salary adjustment of 1.5 per cent.
