Brescia University College students will be able to purchase local foods once a month at a farmers’ market, beginning Dec. 1, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the auditorium foyer in the St. James Building.
The market will be hosted monthly during the academic year by the Student Human Ecology Association in collaboration with the O’Shea Family Farm.
The O’Shea family wants to promote fresh, local food products on a year-round basis. It is working as an organizing body with 18 local farmers.
“As a food and nutrition student, I am thrilled at the possibility to have fresh, local produce readily accessible at Brescia. I think that it is really important to support our local farmers, and as a student, I know that lack of accessibility to nearby farmers’ markets is a limiting factor,” said Gurita Bhatti, Policy Building Co-Coordinator for the student group.
The market will operate 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month during the academic year.
