Once again, the Western Cares Food Drive, in conjunction with the city-wide Business Cares Food Drive to support the London and Area Food Bank, is about to begin. This year the campus drive will run from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11.
Thanks to campus support last year, Western and its affiliate university colleges were able to help the city-wide drive collect a record 80 tons of food (161,000 lbs.). Business Cares would like to beat that this year, but in light of the economic downturn, your support will be more important than ever.
The London and Area Food Bank provides emergency food items for 2,700 people monthly – 42 per cent of them children – and more than 30 other social service agencies in the London area.
Donation boxes or shopping carts will be set up in as many locations as possible around campus. To that end, Western Cares Food Drive co-ordinators Scott May (x85466) and Jodi Guthrie (x86438) are looking for volunteers who could help by being ‘Building Champions’ and encourage people and groups in their building to bring in food donations, and also keeping an eye on the drop box or shopping cart in their area ). Contact either May or Guthrie if you can help.
“We hope that you will try to dig deep to help the London and Area Food Bank,” says May. “We’re all suffering a little more this year, but together we can
make a difference. Please help.”
